"Are you the priest?" The man asked me as we passed in the hallway at Oakwood Hospital. I had my clerical collar on, so that must have been the signal for his question. We spoke. I mentioned additional resources I knew of at the hospital. I offered a blessing. We went on our separate ways. What if I had not been wearing my clerical collar? Would I still have appeared to be or seemed like someone who could be approached with a care or concern to share? I hope so. Or, would I have noticed this person's need for a conversation that moment if he had not approached me? I don't know. I pray that I may be Christ's presence and be aware of opportunities to share God's Good News. This encounter was a reminder to"put on Christ" each day. Our call as God's people is to have our eyes and hearts open for service. May God's Holy Spirit prompt us to serve when and where the time is right. Come Holy Spirit.
