Bible studies, discussion groups and inquirer classes are offered throughout the year. On Sunday mornings, an adult study time takes place, which includes bible studies and various themed topics. See the menu below for other opportunities.
Adult Inquiry Class
An inquiry class is periodically offered on Saturdays (10 am - 1 pm) for learning about Christian faith from the Lutheran perspective, about the St. Paul Congregation and our shared relationships in the community, along with our relationship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
Children's Learning Events During Worship
Elementary aged children are dismissed from the worship service during the Scripture Readings and Sermon time for a learning experience tailored to their age, including lessons, music and crafts. Two adults rotate as teachers and high school students help with the class.
Confirmation with Middle School Youth
The two-year confirmation journey is usually during the 7th and 8th grade years. We try to work with families to meet the readiness of the youth, so there may be students participating in their 9th and 10th grade years, or perhaps the 6th grade. Confirmation instruction includes class time, learning more about faith in Jesus Christ, the Bible, Christian and Lutheran Heritage, hearing from the faith stories of others, and going on field trips. In a Confirmation Worship Service, usually in May, the youth affirm their baptismal promises with our congregation and their families.
Holy Communion Instruction
Holy Communion classes are offered during the spring Lenten season. We encourage children to take part around their 5th grade year. Parents and Pastor may have a conversation regarding the age a child might begin their instruction, and this may be determined to be earlier or later than the 5th grade. At the conclusion of this instruction, the students celebrate Holy Communion with our congregation and their families on Maundy Thursday.
Men's Bible Study
The men's bible study meets monthly on the second Saturday at 8 am (usually, so be sure to check the calendar). Presently the group is using as their resource the book Luke, The Gospel of Amazement, by Michael Card.
Second Sunday Forum
In the fall of 2017 two fellow members had great experiences to share. One, a retired high school astronomy teacher reflected on the August '17 Eclipse through the lens of faith. Another had traveled to Germany that summer as part of the year's 500th Anniversary Celebration of the Reformation. These both occurred on "Second Sundays." We continue to look for enrichments such as these to share on future Second Sundays.
Women's Bible Study
The women's bible study meets monthly on the third Wednesday of the month at 1 pm. The Women of the ELCA magazine, Gather includes a bible study resource which is used. https://www.gathermagazine.org/bible-study/upcoming-bible-studies/
